Getting Technical

The Waste Equipment and Technology Association (WASTEC) represents manufacturers, distributors, consultants and technology companies in the solid waste and recycling industry. WASTEC member companies design, build, distribute, service and consult on the equipment and technology systems used to collect, contain, transport, store, process, recycle, treat and dispose of the world’s solid and hazardous wastes and recyclable materials.

WASTEC members are businesses who are engaged in mobile collection and transportation equipment, container and lifting systems, waste processing and material recycling equipment, landfill and composting equipment, medical waste equipment, safety equipment, after-market equipment, and financial and consulting services for the solid waste and recycling industry.

WASTEC and the National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA) are co-associations that make up the Environmental Industry Association (EIA). Together, they provide a forum for members to pursue shared interests and address common industry concerns.

Creating Value

WASTEC members benefit from various member-driven programs and committees created to add value, improve business operations, and keep the membership informed on news that affects the industry.

WASTEC Endorsed Business Solutions are specifically chosen to save members money on services such as credit card processing, insurance, gas and electric utilities, telephone service, and shipping and freight.

The Market Statistics Program provides member companies with information on industry manufacturing data as well as their company’s relationship to the market and competitors. The program has provided many association members with valuable information that assists in strategic planning, production decisions, marketing and sales.

The ANSI Z245 Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) on Equipment Technology and Operations for Wastes and Recyclable Materials develops the requirements for the equipment and facilities used by the waste industry. Participation on the Z245 ASC and its subcommittees are open to all organizations, companies, government agencies and individuals who have a direct and material interest in the activities of the committee. The subcommittees are:

  • Refuse Vehicles – Safety Requirements

  • Stationary Compactors – Safety Requirements

  • Carts & Containers – Safety Requirements

  • Facilities – Safety Requirements

  • Baling Equipment – Safety Requirements

  • Carts & Containers – Compatibility Dimensions

  • Size Reduction Equipment – Safety Requirements

WASTEC Products and Services

WASTEC produces listings that provide its members and potential customers the resources they seek at their fingertips. The “Products and Services Directory” or “Yellow Pages” is an annually published, member-produced compendium of solid waste and recycling equipment, OEM and aftermarket suppliers, and suppliers of technology and services for the solid waste industry. The “Rated Stationary Compactor Listing,” published every three years, lists compaction equipment in a standardized format that allows for accurate comparison of the many different models. It is intended for field engineers and procurement officials assessing requirements for specific installations.

WASTEC also maintains communication with members through monthly e-newsletters and WASTEC-sponsored conferences and meetings, such as the WASTEC Annual Conference and the NSWMA-WASTEC Executive Roundtable. The organization also provides leads about equipment and service sales opportunities, and legal and regulatory alerts on proposed rules that impact your business.

WASTEC is dedicated to helping its members form strong connections to each other and to others in the EIA family. As the saying goes, membership has its privileges, so if your company is not currently a member of WASTEC, consider all of the missed benefits and opportunities, and join today.
