Garden and Gun

A group of Milwaukee pastors is partnering with recyclers to create a gun buyback program in which the weapons will be melted down and recycled into garden tools, calling to mind the famous Biblical passage from Isiah 2:4, “They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.” And their Glocks into Garden Weasels, apparently.

The pastors, seeking to curb violent crime, originally asked the city to fund the program. While Milwaukee officials were supportive of the program, Mayor Tom Barrett told the group he’d prefer to see it privately funded. That’s when Milwaukee-based recyclers Midwest Forman Recycling and Miller Compressing Company stepped in to offer their services.

"I'm very excited about this," Marty Forman of Midwest Forman told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "I'm trying to get more recycling companies involved in this."

Just remember to engage the safety after you’re done using that gunmetal trowel to plant your tulip bulbs.
