The Heap

A Thousand Words

If you work in the waste and recycling industry, you've experienced it: A layman asks you to briefly articulate what happens to their waste and recyclables once they leave the curb. Not exactly an easy task! Thus, I'm always on the lookout for means to give people a quick waste handling primer.

Enter this handy infographic, titled "The Secret Life of Garbage," recently produced by businessdegree.net. It's not perfect and it oversimplifies things a bit, but it is a good jumping off point for further discussion of most of the major issues affecting waste and recycling. You might want to keep it handy for the next time someone asks you what a transfer station is.
