City of Tempe, Phoenix Zoo Partner to Reduce Green Waste

The City of Tempe and the Phoenix Zoo have partnered to help minimize green waste the zoo creates.  

Tempe's solid waste teams plan to collect portions of the zoo’s tree trimmings, and turn the material in compost to keep it out of landfills.

The city and the zoo expect to divert 20 tons of green organic waste away from landfills every month, equivalent to reducing 17 metric tons of emissions or saving 145 barrels of oil.
