Kansas Looks at Putting Rubble Landfill Northeast of Topeka Goodyear Plant

The Kansas Department of Administration is considering turning land the state owns near Topeka’s Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. plant into a clean rubble landfill that would store debris from the future implosion of the Docking State Office Building, department spokesman John Milburn said Monday.

“None of this has been finalized,” Milburn said. “We’re just looking into the feasibility of doing this.”

Shawnee County Commissioner Bob Archer expressed concern Monday that state officials seemed intent on turning the property into a “dump site” regardless of what county officials or local residents think.
