Waste Management Inc. has added six compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks to its fleet in Chico, Calif.

The local subsidiary of the Houston-based parent, Waste Management of North Valley, said in a news release the trucks will be fueled at the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. fueling station in Chico.

The firm also said it has implemented route optimization software that reduces driving time by several thousand hours each year. In addition, all truck engines are programmed to shut down automatically after idling for five minutes to save fuel and further reduce emissions.
