Carthage, Ill., Agrees to Three New Wells at Former Landfill

The city of Carthage continues to make progress on various projects, but one item continues to be a thorn in the side of the community, and it has been that way for over 20 years.

At the regular meeting of the Carthage City Council on March 10, an agreement was signed with American Environmental for the routine monitoring and installation of three new wells the EPA requires. The city has worked hard since closing the landfill decades ago to get clearance from the EPA, but more tests and wells continued to be ordered. All at an expense to the city.
