Wyoming DEQ Gives Initial OK for Happy Jack Landfill Expansion

One of the first steps in expanding the Happy Jack Landfill west of Cheyenne has cleared a regulatory hurdle.

Last week, the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality approved the city of Cheyenne's application for a variance - or exception - to setback laws for the landfill.

At the same time, though, the DEQ placed additional conditions on its approval that relate to monitoring of private water wells.

Those conditions were added following a public meeting on Sept. 29.
