The Ontario County landfill is installing horizontal gas collectors at the landfill on Routes 5 and 20 in the hamlet of Flint. The process is expected to take a few weeks, according to a notice from landfill manager Casella Waste Systems Inc.

Last month, Casella filled the lower northern slope where the final cover system was recently removed, the company reported. Casella is now waiting for approval from the state Department of Environmental Conservation to install a new 10-inch landfill gas header line along the upper back portion of the landfill. This would “provide additional vacuum to gas wells that were installed earlier this year,” Casella stated.
