GPI Teams with Beverage, Glass and Recycling Leaders to Create U.S. Glass Recycling Coalition

In an effort to strengthen glass recycling in the U.S., the Glass Packaging Institute (GPI) has teamed up with leaders in the beverage, glass processing and recycling industries to assemble a group of organizations to create the U.S. Glass Recycling Coalition, a membership-based alliance that will serve as an efficient, high-quality and convenient service for customers.

This coalition will bring together organizations, consumer brands, glass manufacturers, waste haulers, recycling processors and trade organizations to help make an valuable glass recycling system that’s viable for everyone.

“The Glass Packaging Institute is excited to partner with stakeholders along the entire value chain to work together on practical and targeted solutions for returning more recycled glass back to manufacturers for new bottles and jars,” said Glass Packaging Institute President Lynn Bragg in a press release.  “For glass container and fiberglass manufacturers, the demand for recycled glass dramatically exceeds the supply.”

Together, members of the coalition will work to develop strategies to increase the availability of cullet, assist municipalities with smart recycling decisions for glass and establish a reliable network of glass recycling resources.

To date, the coalition’s confirmed members include Allagash Brewing Company, Ardagh Group, Diageo, Gallo Glass Company, GPI, Goose Island Beer Company, Heineken USA, North American Insulation Manufacturing Association, Inc., New Belgium Brewing, National Waste and Recycling Association, O-I, Pratt Industries, The Recycling Partnership, Resource Recycling Systems, Republic Services, Ripple Glass, Rocky Mountain Bottle Company, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., Sims Municipal Recycling, Strategic Materials, Inc. and Waste Management.
