EPA Collects One Million Pounds of HHW in Louisiana

The Washington-based U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that an estimated one million pounds of household hazardous waste has been collected during the hurricane cleanups in Louisiana. The EPA has worked with local governments to set up nine collection centers for the hazardous waste.

The agency and its local contractors also have sent out flyers announcing home collection of the household hazardous waste. After the waste is picked up, it is sent to collection centers to be separated for transportation and disposal. Items collected include lawn and garden products, fuels, paints, cleaning products and batteries.
