EIA's Legler Resigns Cosman Retires from Republic Services

Jim Cosman, president and COO of Republic Services Inc., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has announced he will retire at the end of the year, after 30 years in the waste industry.

Once a professional baseball player, Cosman attained the position of regional vice president at Houston-based Browning-Ferris Industries before joining Republic in 1996.

Robert Turner has joined Harris Waste Management Group Inc., Peachtree City, Ga., as director of sales for the company's Asia division.

USA Biomass Corp., Bell Gardens, Calif., has named Lance Jones president and CEO.

David Grzelak has been named chairman and CEO of Komatsu Mining Systems Inc., Vernon Hills, Ill.

Jerry Flickinger has been named shop and equipment sales and service manager for City Carton Co. Inc., Iowa City, Iowa.

Joseph Kolodziejski will head the Baltimore Department of Public Works' Bureau of Solid Waste.

Anthony Riccio has joined Roy F. Weston Inc., West Chester, Pa., as a senior client manager in its Eastern division.

Greg Podell has been promoted to president of Galbreath Inc., Winamac, Ind., a subsidiary of Wastequip Inc., Beachwood, Ohio.

Peter Petrecca has joined Kinetic Biosystems, Atlanta, as vice president of engineering and manufacturing.

Brian Mihm has been hired as area sales manager for Harris Waste Management Group's non-ferrous division based in Peachtree City, Ga.

Shorenstein Co., San Francisco, has hired Glenn Shannon as president.

Metropolitan Environmental Inc., Celina, Ohio, has appointed J. Candella, CEO; Scott Swonger, president; Jackie Murray, vice president of sales and operations; Kevin Schmidt, vice president of finance and administration; and Tom Moline, vice president of terminal support services.

TruckCenter.com, Dearfield, Ill., has appointed John Dorr president and CEO.

EMCON/OWT Solid Waste Services, Mahwah, N.J., has promoted Mike Michels to national sales manager.

CTI and Associates Inc., Brighton, Mich., has hired Roslyn Bloom as project engineer and John Balconi as a principal.

Janet Matthews has joined Portland, Ore.-based Metro's Regional Environmental Management department as policy and program manager.

J&J Truck Bodies and Trailers, a division of Somerset Welding and Steel Inc., Somerset, Pa., has promoted Tim Thompson to national sales manager for its trailer division, and Mark McClintock to regional account manager for dump trailer sales.

Jack Legler, executive vice president at the Washington, D.C.-based Environmental Industry Associations (EIA), which includes both the Waste Equipment Technology Association (WASTEC) and the National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA), resigned on November 3. Legler will join the travel and truck stop industry association, NATSO Inc., Alexandria, Va., as chief operating officer.

During his 13 years at EIA, Legler worked to develop WASTEC from an affiliate membership class into an independent trade association under the EIA umbrella. He also has worked extensively on industry safety issues, including the safety standards for recycling facilities, the truck driver training program and the EIA "Manual of Recommended Safety Practices."

Legler says he will miss this job. "I let garbage into my blood," he says.
