Covanta Tartech Venture Starts Recycling Operation at Monofill

Covanta Tartech LLC has begun a metals recovery and recycling operation at an ash monofill in Peabody, Mass.

The joint venture between waste-to-energy firms Covanta Energy Corp., Morristown, N.J., and Tartech eco industries AG, Berlin, expects to recover thousands of tons of metal that has been deposited in the Peabody ash monofill, the companies said in a news release.

The joint venture first was announced in September 2012, and the Peabody venture is the first for the partnership. Its aim is to use a highly specialized technology to recycle metals from ash that remains from the waste-to-energy process.
