N.Y. County Reinstates Flow Control

Lewis County, N.Y., legislators have voted to enact a law that will reinstate flow control. The law, effective July 1, will force waste haulers to take all waste collected in the county to the Development Authority of North Country’s (DANC) regional landfill in Rodman, N.Y.

The Watertown Daily Times reports the decision to reinstate flow control was in response to the county’s need to keep tipping fees stable. A steady flow of trash to its DANC landfill would allow the county to do so.

“If we can deal with our own waste and not bring in outside waste, I think that’s the way to do it,” said Richard Lucas, legislative vice chairman for Lewis County, the paper reports.
