San Francisco construction material recycling law takes effect

Beginning this week, all construction waste produced in San Francisco must be sent to a certified recycling facility. According to The Mercury News, the Construction and Demolition Debris Recovery Ordinance was introduced by Mayor Gavin Newsom and City Supervisor Fiona Ma and passed in February. It is hoped that the law will help reclaim a significant portion of the more than 100,000 tons of reusable wood, metal, sheetrock, concrete, asphalt, bricks, cardboard and hard plastic that would otherwise go directly into the city’s landfills each year.
