The Texas Senate has passed a bill that would require television manufacturers to provide state residents “with free and convenient recycling for used TVs,” according to a report in the Austin Business Journal newspaper. The state House of Representatives already has passed the measure, so it only needs the signature of Gov. Rick Perry to become law.

According to the newspaper, “Current programs for recycling televisions [are] limited. Goodwill locations across the state will accept old TVs that still work, but the cost of recycling is sometimes prohibitive for non-working televisions.”
