The Washington state House and Senate have passed a bill that will require television and computer manufacturers to pay for e-waste recycling programs. According to an article in The Columbian, the bill would give manufacturers who sell their products in the state the option to participate in funding a statewide recycling program, which will set up collection site and recycling centers, or to establish their own programs. Opponents of the bill say it needs more work to adequately address program funding and that the measure would unfairly benefit out-of-state manufacturers. Now, the bill will be passed onto Gov. Christine Gregoire and it is unknown whether she supports the legislation.
