IESI-BFC Completes Purchase of Waste Services

Toronto-based IESI-BFC Ltd. has completed its purchase of Burlington, Ontario, Canada-based Waste Services. The combined company will continue under the IESI-BFC name and will be headquartered in Toronto.

The firm now will have more than 6,000 employees serving commercial, industrial and residential customers in six Canadian provinces, 11 states and the District of Columbia.

Keith Carrigan, IESI-BFC’s current vice chairman and CEO, will lead the combined company. Additionally, Thomas Cowee, vice president and chief financial officer of IESI-BFC, will continue to serve in those positions.

In November, IESI-BFC reached an agreement to purchase Waste Services. According to the terms of the agreement, Waste Service stockholders will receive 0.5833 shares of IESI-BFC stock for each Waste Service share they own.
