Veolia Energy to Build Its First LFGTE Project

Boston-based Veolia Energy North America is developing its first landfill gas-to-energy facility. The facility will be located at Veolia Environmental Services North America’s Hickory Meadows Landfill in eastern Wisconsin.

The 4.9-megawatt facility, which will produce enough electricity to power approximately 2,800 homes, is scheduled to begin operating in summer 2011. Wisconsin Public Service, which provides electricity and gas to northeastern Wisconsin residents, will purchase the power produced by the Veolia facility.

“We are delighted to begin construction of our first renewable energy facility in North America,” said Stewart A. Wood, president and CEO of Veolia Energy North America, in a statement. “Veolia Energy is committed to maximizing environmental sustainability through a reduction in the consumption of fossil fuels and the introduction of renewable resources into the energy mix, and I am pleased that this project will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for the people of Wisconsin.”
