Waste Management’s Net Income, Revenue Rise in First Quarter

Houston-based Waste Management reported a net income of $182 million on $2.9 billion in revenue for first-quarter 2010. For the same period last year, the firm reported a net income of $155 million on $2.8 billion in revenue.

“We saw further signs of improvement in our business during the first quarter of 2010,” said David P. Steiner, CEO of Waste Management, in a press release. “Revenue increased over 4 percent compared with the first quarter of 2009, primarily because of improving commodity prices and year-over-year yield increases. And volume comparisons continued to show improving trends.”
