OSHA Agreement Helps Workers at Fresh Kills

Danielle Jackson

Staten Island, N.Y. -- The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has announced a partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), New York Police Department, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, New York City Department of Health and others to protect workers at the World Trade Center (WTC) Staten Island Landfill Recovery Operation at Fresh Kills.

The partnership asks all members to ensure implementation of and compliance with the WTC Staten Island Recovery Operation Emergency Project Environmental, Safety and Health Plan; abate all serious hazards immediately; and share safety hazard and exposure monitoring data.

Members of the agreement already have complied by holding safety meetings and joint safety monitoring tours, and providing respirators, air sampling and employee training.
