Munich, Germany -- Advanced Recycling Sciences (ARS) Inc., Tustin, Calif., has signed a memorandum of understanding with German environmental investment firm Natur-Energie-Werstoffrecycling (N.E.W.) Umwelt AG, Munich, to develop ARS' Tires2Oil technology in the country.
The process shreds and granulates scrap tires and removes steel and fabric from tires. The resulting crumb rubber is processed in a hydrocarbon-based solvent at a thermodynamically critical condition to de-polymerize the crumb rubber and allow for recovery of oil and carbon black.
An accompanying purification system removes sulfur and zinc from the oil and carbon black to produce a premium-grade No. 2 crude oil with less than 15 parts per million sulfur content, according to ARS.
