Advanced Disposal Names Spegal Chief Operating Officer

Advanced Disposal Services Inc. appointed John Spegal as chief operating officer.

ADS Waste Holdings Inc., parent firm of the Ponte Vedra, Fla.-based Advanced Disposal, said he will direct companywide operations for Advanced Disposal’s footprint, according to a news release.

Spegal has served as Advanced Disposal’s vice president of business development. As chief operating officer he succeeds Richard Burke, who also is president and will become CEO of the company effective July 1.

“John brings deep sales, operations and finance experience to Advanced Disposal, and will play a key role in continuing to drive our ‘Service First! Safety Always’ culture,” Burke said. “He has a successful track record of operational experience and helping companies like ours execute high growth initiatives and drive operational excellence."

Prior to joining Advanced Disposal, Spegal worked for more than six years with AIR-serv Group LLC as regional vice president and was responsible for its East Coast operations, providing tire inflation and vacuum vending services for 20,000 machines at service stations to convenience stores.

Prior to that he worked at Allied Waste Industries/Browning Ferris Industries for more than 20 years, serving in various management roles throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Southern regions, including Puerto Rico.
