Northern Va. -- While traveling from Maryland to Virginia Tuesday morning, a tractor trailer filled with trash became stuck on the southbound side of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge at around 4:40 a.m. It took emergency crews nearly four hours to move the truck, causing major delays during the morning rush hour. The truck was moved to the Maryland side of the bridge several hours later, but remains on the side of the road on I-495.
While stuck, the trash shifted, causing the center of the truck to collapse and lift the rear wheels off of the ground. According to Maryland State Police spokesman Rob Moroney, the truck will be inspected for overloading or other violations, and charges may result. This case again raises the issue of interstate waste; in the past, opponents of interstate waste transport have warned that this type of problem could occur.
