Strike Ends at Republic in Tennessee

Workers agreed to return to work at Republic Services Inc.'s facility in the Memphis Tenn., area after striking Jan. 28.

(Our breaking news alert inadvertently said workers returned to work.)

"Today, we received a letter from [the Washington-based Teamsters] Local 984 offering an ‘unconditional’ return to work," said Roger Lawrence, general manager at Phoenix-based Republic, in a statement. "We have since met with the union and they have agreed to report at their usual start time tomorrow. They have also agreed to work this weekend so that we can get caught up.

"We appreciate our customers’ patience during the Teamsters strike and we are committed to picking-up all trash by Sunday."
