Toronto – Environment Minister Leona Dombrowsky proposed legislation to the Ontario government this past week that would block an abandoned, open-pit mine from being used as a landfill site. If the Adams Mine Landfill had been approved, Toronto’s trash would have been sent to the site during the next 20 years, instead of exported to Michigan where state lawmakers remain up in arms. However, Dombrowsky stated that the mine posed to many obstacles. "The endless proposals and challenges around Adams Mine have created too much uncertainty, and for too long have drained the energy and resources of local communities."
