Lubbock, Texas, Leaders Seek Funds to Clean Recycling Center

The abandoned recycling center just off North Interstate 27 has been a decade-long problem, but Lubbock’s lawmakers in Austin are hoping to make a final push.

The old recycling center is located across the interstate from the Silent Wings Museum. You most likely remember it for its fires. The roughly 80-acre recycling station went ablaze twice, once in 2002 and again in 2009. Both fires lasted about a week.
