Monroe, N.Y., Wants to Double Volume of Recycling, Composting

Monroe County wants to at least double the amount of household and business trash diverted to recycling or composting — and kept out of landfills — over the next decade.

That's the goal, anyway. Finding the means to achieve it remains a work in progress.

The marked increase in the recycling and composting rate is a centerpiece of the county's new solid-waste management plan, which will be aired at a public meeting at Monroe Community College in Brighton on Thursday evening.
