Even as waste and recycling professionals, it can sometimes be difficult to quantify to a layman the exact energy value of recycling. Now the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has unveiled a nifty little widget that allows you to calculate the precise energy savings (in the layman-friendly metric of appliance operating time) generated by recycling a given amount of common materials. Dubbed iWARM, the widget uses calculations from EPA’s Waste Reduction Model (WARM). You can give it a spin below.
