Indianapolis — Dow Agrosciences LLC has announced it will discontinue the use of clopyralid, a widely used herbicide, on U.S. residential lawns.

Dow also has petitioned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to discontinue clopyralid use on golf courses and other non-residential turf.

"The decision to discontinue residential turf use of the herbicide was made to address regulatory concerns about the potential for damage to sensitive plants from clopyralid residues in compost," said Elin Miller, Dow’s president for urban pest control products.
