ENSR Helps Waste Combustion Industry with MACT Regulations

Westford, Mass. — ENSR International is assisting several hazardous waste incinerator companies to comply with new Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Clean Air Act regulations. The Maximum Achievable Control Technologies (MACT) air standards, which must be met by September 2003, require companies to comply with its regulatory provisions and develop formal plans to address operations and maintenance, continuous monitoring system quality assurance, and operator training and certification, as well as other provisions.

To date, approximately 66 large-unit waste-to-energy (WTE) incinerators have spent approximately $1 billion to upgrade their pollution control technology.
