Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) held a public meeting June 7 to discuss improving customer awareness of the safe use and handling of wood pressure treated with chromated copper arsenate (CCA), a wood preservative containing arsenic. The American Wood Preservers Institute (AWPI) suggested placing individual tages with specific safe handling information on each piece of CCA-treated wood before selling it to consumers. Other suggestions included the establishment of a toll-free hotline and website.
