EPA Gives $27 Million to Superfund

Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has cleared payments to clean up one-third of the toxic waste sites for which financing had been delayed earlier this year. Agency officials on Monday gave $27 million to clean up 11 of the 33 Superfund sites in 18 states that the EPA says received no money as of May.

Congress also requested that the EPA hold back distributing $100 million from the $1.3 billion program until September, the final month of the government’s fiscal year, to ensure allocations are made throughout the year.
