Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has launched "Smart Growth: Saving Open Space, Revitalizing Brownfields," a program designed to help communities clean up brownfields sites. On Wednesday, the EPA awarded $405,000 — or $45,000 each — to nine communities to help clean up their abandoned or contaminated properties.
