EPA Will Move Forward, On-Schedule With Diesel Regulations

Washington, D.C. — After reviewing a controversial diesel emissions rule published weeks before President George W. Bush took office, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Christie Whitman has decided to move forward with the rule on-schedule. Whitman determined that the rule's implementation schedule allows enough time for diesel producers to introduce cleaner fuel into the marketplace. Additionally, she believes that engine manufacturers will have flexibility to meet the new standards between 2007 and 2010. To view the rule, visit
