Staten Island, N.Y. — Workers sifting through debris at Fresh Kills in search of remains and evidence from the World Trade Center buildings collapse will end their search next week; the last truckload from Ground Zero made its way to the landfill on June 28.
On Monday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin dismantling conveyor belts, screening equipment, storage trailers and food service facilities at the site. Officials also are considering a ceremony to mark the end of the effort.
