Good News for WMI Despite Fourth Quarter Earnings

New York — Merrill Lynch analysts have raised Waste Management Inc.'s (WMI) rating to "mid-term buy," despite WMI's disappointing fourth quarter 2000 earnings. Adjusted for the effects of harsh weather, analysts said, WMI's fourth quarter earnings met expectations. Additionally, WMI's initial 2001 earnings are "concrete evidence of a turnaround," analysts said.
