WASTE AGE STAFF

Landfill management means more than compacting waste and operating heavy equipment. Here's a couple of hi-tech tools that could help your facilities.

Caterpillar Inc., Peoria, Ill., has developed the Computer-Aided Earth-moving System (CAES) to allow equipment operators to see in real time how what they are doing affects the overall site plan. An on-board color monitor allows the operator to determine compaction data and eliminates the need for survey flags that define elevation, slope, grade and material type, the company says. The CAES is available for hydraulic and cable front shovels, wheel loaders, scrapers, track-type tractors, motor graders and compactors.

Discerning Systems Inc., Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, recommends its DumpStat Windows software package for detection monitoring statistics and laboratory data management at landfills. The program automatically selects statistics to minimize false positive and negative rates at a facility, the company says.
