Mass. to Regulate Its Own Carbon Dioxide Emissions

Boston — Massachusetts is not waiting for the federal government to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from power plants. Instead, Gov. Jane Swift has unveiled new standards requiring significant cuts in emissions of carbon dioxide, acid rain-causing sulfur dioxide and smog-causing nitrogen oxide. Set to go into effect in June, the rules will make Massachusetts the first state to limit carbon dioxide emissions from power plants.
