Miami Landfill to Pack on Pile for Early Closure

Miami – The Dade County Commission has decided to allow refuse piles at the Peerless Dade Landfill to climb to 23 feet in order to close the landfill within three years. According to the

, environmental officials are approving the plan because they fear stalling it with litigation could accelerate existing groundwater contamination. The current height limit is 12 feet, but other environmental officials say the landfill has already violated that limit with areas exceeding 20 feet.
