Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) today announced a new weather information tool that predicts the effects adverse weather conditions will have on roads. The Maintenance Decision Support System (MDSS) uses forecasting techniques to recommend courses of action and to display maintenance alternatives. The system primarily is for state departments of transportation, but private industry has been involved in the development process and is expected to build new products and services around the core capabilities of the MDSS.
