Fort Lauderdale, Fla. — Republic Services Inc. has reported a first quarter 2001 revenue of $535.4 million, up from its first quarter 2000 revenue of $501.5 million. Net income for the quarter was $49.6 million, or $0.29 cents per share, compared to $50.2 million for the same period last year. Although Republic CEO James O'Connor says he is pleased with these numbers, he adds that "higher fuel and labor costs in certain markets negatively impacted [the company's] year-over-year margins."
