New York -- Some 3,000 tons of uncovered rubble at the trade center area was taken by boat to a former Staten Island garbage dump, believed to be Fresh Kills, where the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and other investigators searched for evidence, according to the
Associated Press
. Cranes and other heavy machinery carefully waded through the wreckage to pick up the rubble, hoping to avoid harming any survivors in the wreckage.
