The City of Savannah, Georgia is seeking a Sanitation Director to plan, organize and direct all solid waste management activities of the City, including residential and commercial refuse collection, street cleaning, resource recovery, transfer station and landfill operations and the clean environment program. The employee in this position reports to the City Manager; directs and evaluates operations and staff; coordinates the planning of future disposal and mechanical collection operations including future resource recovery technologies and facilities and the handling and disposing of hazardous wastes; supervises and participates in departmental administrative activities including fiscal management and budget preparation; inspects resource recovery facility to ensure contract compliance and to verify energy revenues and facility expenses; and evaluates motorized equipment needs and recommends acquisition of new equipment.
Key goals for the position will include longterm planning and capacity availability of the Citys landfill, litter control and cleanliness, and employee relations. Applicants for the position of Sanitation Director must possess strong leadership skills, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be familiar with the principles of quality management. Proven record of active and positive employee interaction is required. A Masters degree in Business or Public Administration or related field is required. Applicants must have 5 years increasingly responsible business or public operations management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Salary range: $62,825 to 88,008 annually plus an excellent benefits package. Valid driver's license, transcripts, background investigation, incl. supervised drug screen & post-offer/pre-employment medical screen also required.
