Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee chair, Richard Lugar, R-Ind., says that the Bush administration's new energy proposal will promote the use of biofuels, in addition to encouraging more oil and gas drilling. Lugar also has backed legislation that would spend $49 million annually for six years of biofuels research. The U.S. Energy Department estimates that biofuels, which are made from organic wastes, could generate as much as $20 million annually for farmers and could significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
