Columbia, S.C. — Four out of five South Carolina residents say they recycle at least occasionally, and most recyclers say they do it because they are comitted to environmental protection, according to a state telephone survey of more than 1,000 residents. According to Richard Chesley of the state Department of Health and Environmental Control Office of Solid Waste reduction and Recycling, the survey was conducted to identify the who, what and why of residential recycling and "to identify opportunities to increase resident involvement." For additional results or for more information on how the survey was conducted, call Chesley at (803) 896-4209.
