Swedish Waste Watchers Argue Burning Should Replace Recycling

is reporting that five Swedish representatives from environmental and waste collection organizations are leading a campaign to stop recycling cardboard, plastics and food. The representatives argue that incineration is a more sensible approach to handling these materials, and advocates from Britain concur. The

Telegraph

reports that British local authorities are drawing up plans to build up to 50 incinerators. The Swedes leading this argument include Valfrid Paulsson, a former director-general of the environmental protection agency; Soren Norrby, a former campaign manager for Keep Sweden Tidy; and the former managing directors of three waste collection companies. The British Environmental Services Association agreed that environmental and economic benefits of incineration have been overlooked.
