It used to be that parents warned their children that if they didn't apply themselves, they'd wind up collecting garbage for a living. That particular (somewhat offensive) tactic would not have the desired effect on twelve-year-old Sam Klein of St. Louis, who has been obsessed with trash and recycling collection from early childhood.

Now, as detailed in this NBC Nightly News segment, Klein has indulges that obsession by running his own recycling business, collecting spent inkjet and toner cartridges, and old cell phones from local businesses, before sorting and packaging them up at home. For this service he receives a tidy sum from the cartridge manufacturers, which he donates to local charities.
