Beirut, Lebanon – The United States has agreed to develop a landfill in Beirut based on a grant of $450,000 from the U.S. Trade and Development Agency. The money will fund a study to assess risks of building commercial and residential projects on the Normandy landfill. This project is part of a larger plan intended to revitalize Lebanon’s economy, which has been in repair since the civil war, which lasted from 1975 to 1990.
