Greensboro, N.C. — Volvo Trucks North America has recalled 1,577 heavy duty trucks built between Nov. 1997 and Aug. 1999, because the trucks were shipped with inaccurate front-axle weight ratings. Responding to truckers' complaints, the company filed a notice with federal regulators on Mar. 22, 2001, saying the recall stemmed from incorrect tire rating information used to calculate the weight ratings. The company has pledged to replace the weight certification label with a correct one, replace front axle tires, or replace or relocate fuel tanks to comply with federal standards.
